nothing to invoice
Every loop lesson is a 20-minute block. A family pays $30.00 for it and you keep $23.40 — the same whether the lesson runs a little short or a little over. Payouts go to your own bank account through Stripe; loop never sees your bank details.
Who can teach
- Registered with the Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand, holding a current practising certificate.
- Your registration number, which a person at loop checks against the public register — not a form that ticks itself.
- A quiet, private space to teach from, where nobody else can see or overhear the student.
- A signed safeguarding agreement and independent contractor agreement.
The Teaching Council Police-vets teachers as part of issuing and renewing a practising certificate, and loop relies on that rather than running a duplicate check. We record the expiry date of every certificate and check it continuously — a tutor whose certificate lapses stops receiving students that day, automatically, until it is renewed.
What to expect
You choose when
You set the windows you are available. There is no minimum, no timetable, and no penalty for a quiet week. Requests come to whoever is free; the tutor who joins first takes the lesson.
Short, focused lessons
Typically 15–30 minutes, on the thing the student is stuck on right now. No lesson planning, no marking, no reports to write in your own time — loop writes the report.
Every lesson is recorded
Not some, and not on request. Students and families know that, and so do you. A recorded lesson is a lesson that can be checked, which protects you as much as the student.
You are a contractor, not an employee
You invoice nobody and you are paid automatically for the lessons you taught. The independent contractor agreement sets out the rest, and you sign it before your first lesson.
What applying takes
About ten minutes in total, and it saves as you go — you can stop after any step and pick it up later. Four fields to start, then where you teach now, your registration, your qualifications and why you would like to teach with loop, and about a minute on camera explaining a concept a twelve-year-old is stuck on, with no preparation. Then a rough indication of your availability, and send it.
Somebody reads it. Most applications are answered within two working days, and we email either way.
Questions before you apply?
Email patrick@loop.study. Questions about your application, your practising certificate, availability or payouts all go to the same place. Our child safety policy sets out what every tutor agrees to.
